What does your brand say about your business??
Today, I want to talk about something a little different. Brand Building. When building a business from the ground up, there are multiple things a business owner needs to consider. The most important detail that I felt was most supportive in the building of my brand was the focus that I put on emotion.
What does emotion have to do with it??? Everything!!! Does it not determine whether we have a good or bad day?? Do we not go shopping when we are upset?? I spent time researching everything from color, to visual layout, and sounds than I did in any other area when it came time to build my brand. My concept revolved around the mood I wanted my client to morph into the second she walked in after a hard days work. Every little corner in my shop has a purpose. It works! We get complimented on our decor and music every single day!
Time flies when you enjoy who you’re with!
So, how did I determine what mood would fit my brand?? I first determined what kind of women I wanted to spend 14 hours a day with. Time flies when you enjoy who you’re with! We all know there are people who make you feel like your time together just wasn’t enough! THOSE are the ladies that I wanted to attract! I began collecting information on everything these types of women would love! That was the base of my brand building!
Color can play a major role on mood!
I researched the psychological effects of color. Color can play a major role in the mood of a room. It can cause anxiety or a rigid atmosphere if not properly thought out. I wanted to know what colors I needed to use to stimulate relaxation in my business. I wanted these ladies to walk in and immediately feel like they could leave every bit of their lives at the door just from the colors that greeted them.
Drive your vision home with decor…
The next part of branding… my favorite…. decor! I wanted to invest in something a little different from the average hair salon. The one thing I love most about living in the south is our “come over for dinner” culture. So I knew I wanted that to incorporate type of emotional connection with the ladies of L’eau De Vie! I chose decor that made you want to kick off your shoes, pour a glass of sweet ice tea, and visit with the girls while we worked our magic!
Music makes the world go ’round…
The final (and most important) branding concept I incorporate is music. I can visually create a mood in my business all day long but if what my clients hear does not resonate with what I’ve created then nothing comes together. I am a stickler when it comes to the music I play in my business. I can’t tell you how many times I get asked in one week what station I keep a radio on. I have had clients message me days later their appointment asking about our music. What does that tell me? They were still thinking about my business 3,4, and 5 days after they left. Now thats a brand worth remembering !
You can’t duplicate what you didn’t help create!
I have had multiple business owners come to my salon and attempt to re-create what I’ve done. However, that is not something you can duplicate without personally meeting with me to discuss the process. In order to create the type of brand that speaks specifically to your ideal client you must first understand them. It is not uncommon for a business owner to get caught up in what they want to feel when they go to work. However, their ideal client may need to feel something different. Just as in leadership, when building a business, the focus is now on our client, not ourselves.
